This was the best seller of the Elvis Presley features we picked up from Grand National, whose contract also included the western ‘Last Train from Gun Hill’ and five additional Elvis Presley musicals: ‘G.I. Blues’, ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!’, ‘Paradise Hawaiian Style’, ‘Fun in Acapulco’ and ‘King Creole’, all originally released by Paramount Pictures and produced by Hal Wallis Productions.
One of his best and it was the first of his films to use the exotic island of Hawaii as a backdrop. Lots of young girls in swimwear, plus 15 catchy tunes including ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ and ‘Rock-a-Hula Baby’ and concludes with ‘The Hawaiian Wedding Song’, which had been recorded in 1958 by Andy Williams and wasn’t written specially for the movie. The film was directed by Norman Taurog, who would direct Elvis in nine movies. Angela Lansbury as is mother Sarah Lee is a favourite of mine and utters the wonderful line ‘My baby’s home from the Big House’, when Chad returns home after a few hours in a local jail. The label was one of the first designed by Marianne Frost and was printed by yours truly.
