Long John Silver

by

This 1954 Australian made swashbuckler, is a sequel of sorts to Walt Disney’s first live action movie “Treasure Island”, released four years earlier in 1950. Robert Newton’s performance as Long John Silver is so iconic that it is thought by many to be the origin of today’s stereotypical “Arrrrr”-laced pirate and he would continue in the role in a 26 episode TV series ‘The Adventures of Long John Silver’.

This title was still being printed (albeit super 8 only) when I started working for Derann in mid 1975, however a new label was never prepared as we considered the title a little old hat when we began releasing the product from Rank and EMI.

This is a simple but eyecatching label that shows what you can achieve with just four colours, although I bet it gave Derek problems during its printing, as they are such large and solid areas.
