A three page article from the February 1963 issue, plus a souvenir brochure: Firstly ley me begin by saying that I’ve never seen this or any film version of this seafaring drama…. just not on my menu! Nominated for 7 Academy awards and running just under 3 hours it’s obviously an epic in every sense of the word. Released by Ken Films as a 3×400′, 400′ and a 200′ it was a crowd-pleaser and in demand from the moment it was issued. Later Kempski would release it full length in Skoptimax on 11×400′ reels and it was only the hefty price tag that held it back. When Kempski closed his operations he offered Derann the negatives and sound masters to a number of his titles and this was one of them. We would recut the film to fit onto 6×600′ spools. I don’t possess a Kempski label and can’t find an example on the internet, so if you can help out please scan and post!
