If you have a story to tell send it to my personal messenger, and a photo or two would be nice.
I probably came to super 8 later (and younger) than most. I was initially fascinated by a Quarz std 8mm camera that my mother inherited from her father, and as a child I’d secretly take it out and pretend to film with it. Much later as a 13 year old in 1986 I received a second hand super 8 camera for my birthday, which lead to a projector and to buying some packaged films. I remember getting a printed newsletter from Perry’s Movies and from Derann and at least one other dealer who’s name escapes me. I’d scour the lists, usually for second hand films that appealed to me. Science fiction, cartoons, 50s and 60s British comedy. One of my later purchases from Derann was a reel someone had put together of trailers for all the Star Trek movies up to Insurrection. Some of my favourites are features of The Quatermass XPeriment, The Ladykillers and The Lavendar Hill Mob. I always remember Ged being really helpful in offering to let me know if a desired title passed his way. These days I still buy the occasional title via eBay, and I still shoot super 8. And I finally used my late grandfather’s camera properly in the 21st century.
