A two page article from the February 1971 issue: This was another title we picked up from EMI and I’m sure there were better Hammer films to had, but the poster art caught Derek’s eye and that was it. Considering the hammering the critics had given this film it sold well, probably due to the excellent quality of the colour prints. George Watson of the BFI says “Unfortunately, what could have been a bold move in bringing the implicit into the open is compromised by a very immature approach to the material. The hero, Richard Lestrange (Michael Johnson), alternates between behaving like Sid James in a Carry On film, and a parody of a Romantic poet. When Lestrange and Mircalla make love, they are serenaded by a horribly inappropriate pop ballad, which robs the scene of all tension.” We released the film as a 4×400′ and a 400′.
