A two page article from the December 1957 issue: Rightfully considered one of the best supernatural thrillers of the 50s, this is an intellegent working of the M R James short story ‘Casting the Runes’. Dana Andrews and Niall MacGinnis give us a masterclass in the art of the casual underplay which all leads to a terrific climax. Columbia Picutures home movies only released the title as a 200′ in silent or sound and naturally under it’s American title ‘Curse of the Demon’. Nowadays this tightly made 95 minute thriller would be padded out to 120, as is usual these days, and turned into yet another long winded unnecessary remake.
