Contracts & Rights Chapter 24

Rank Distributors were more than willing when it came to their ‘Look at Life’ shorts, a series of short documentary films of which over 500 were produced between 1959 and 1969 by the Special Features Division of the Rank Organisation for screening in their Odeon and Gaumont cinemas. There were no problems in choosing the titles and our first six were soon on a contract and proved to be just as popular as the Pathe Pictorials we had just picked up from EMI. The initial subjects were ‘The Black Arrows’, 1960; ‘Goodbye Piccadilly’, 1961; ‘Music by The Mile’, 1964; ‘The Cinema Steps Out’, 1968; ‘For The Record’ 1961 and ‘The Other Film World’, 1964. Later additions would include ‘The Sinking City’, ‘The Eagles Nest’, ‘ James Bond Island’, ‘Turn of the Wheel’, ‘The Last Battleship’, Holiday Camp’, ‘Sounds of a City’ and ‘Shopping for a Queen’.

…. to be continued.
