If you have a story to tell send it to my personal messenger, and a photo or two would be nice.
James Haris-Tighe was a late, but possitive addition at Derann, and another who was put to work in every area of our busy business.
Started early 2004 Jan/Feb. Not been working there long before my wife Sarah had organised a week off for my 40th birthday in March. Felt part of the team/ family quite quickly. Nick was always there to help me out if I didn’t know something. Nick & myself delivered and installed TV’s in some interesting places. Remember when the flat screen TV’s became cheaper and a lot easier to install as the old (tube) type weighed a lot especially the 32” ones. Apart for the Audio Visual side, I use to go and collect films for the 8 & 16 departments. One customer I went to filmed me arriving at his home as the Derann Van was something he wanted on film parked outside his house. I collected from a rather large country house with a huge cellar with rooms off the main cellar. Brought a van full back but I could smell the film was vinegary scented on the way home and doubt that the films were any good. The long working weekend at Blackpool was interesting. The one year I went down to London to collect Dave Prowse, plus Shane & Shirley Rimmer to bring them to the Blackpool weekend. Shane and Sheila were characters. After I dropped them off. Had a cuppa with Dave and his wife then had a phone call off Shane saying he had left his suit in the back of the car so had to go back to his house to drop it off. They offered me in for something to eat but declined as it was late and had to get home. On the way up to Blackpool Dave wanted some chocolate so stopped off to get some Minstrel’s and Revels. I had a smile to myself as I thought to myself “Darth Vader likes chocolate”. Lol. My car kept making a noise as if the radio was on but only when I turned right. Baffled us all as it was a long journey, found out I had a child’s toy stuck under my seat that sang with the pressure turning right, switched it on. They were good years. Met some interesting people. Robert Plant came in the shop saying Roy Wood had told him to come to us. Nick served him while I was serving a couple. They were surprised to see Robert Plant in the store but I played it down saying we always had celebrities coming in. We seemed to run a coffee shop as so many regular customers came in. I was only there a few years in comparison with the rest of the staff. The memories they have must be over whelming. It’s a shame it had to close. Keep in touch Ged. I do with Ade and Nick mainly Birthdays and Christmas. We kept in touch with Anne too as we got on well with her. Sad day when we lost her.
I don’t have any pictures Ged. Sorry.
