The Fabulous Jolson [#1 – #4]

by

Derek was a big Al Jolson fan (The feature ‘The Jolson Story’ from the Columbia deal we had, was the first title to be released), but as early as 1970 Derann had another Jolson film in their sales catalogue ‘Hallelujah, I’m a Tramp’ from 1933, a comedy musical that co-starred Frank Morgan, Harry Langdon and Chester Conklin. Derek edited four shorts from this and simply called them ‘The Fabulous Jolson’ and in 1976/7 it was decided to produce a simple box label utilizing a single colour for each extract. They comprised of the following

#1: (Purple), Bumper and Acorn (Al Jolson & Edgar Connor), reunite with their friends in Central Park and sing two songs.

#2: (Dark Blue), Bumper & Acorn find $1,000 and sing ‘What do you want with money’.

#3: (Light Blue)’ Bumper finds himself in a mock court and sings ‘I didn’t want to do it’.

#4: (Pale Green), Bumper and his girl dances and  sing ‘You are too beautiful’. The labels were again designed by Marianne Frost.
