A two page article from the March 1952 issue, plus a review from a Photoplay of the same date: This 1951 film earned Bogart his only Academy Award, as the gin-swilling riverboat captain who is persuaded by a strait-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship. It’s life on 8mm is a little complicated: I can find entries in our eary Standard 8 hire catalogues (pre 1970) for it’s existance as a 12 reel black & white feature… that’s 6×400′, but can’t discover the distributor. Much later, heading towards 1978/9 it was released as a full feature in the USA in colour by Viacom and around the same time Ken released their 400′ digest. It would almost be a decade later that we released it as a 4×600′ colour feature … I can find an entry in our 1990 sales catalogue, but it was more than likely released in the late 1980s. I don’t possess a Derann or Viacom label and can’t find an example on the internet, so if you can help out please scan and post!
