Ten Fingers of Steel

by

It’s full title was ” Wang Yu – Ten Fingers of Steel”, which played on the popularity of the star of this martial arts drama, Jimmy Wang Yu, who was already a superstar of some substance and had acheived great aclaim in blockbusters like ‘One armed Swordsman’ (1967), which had set new box office records in Hong Kong. This was another film which we had at one time held the 16mm rental rights. Picked up from Ember Films,  our scope prints were rarly on the shelves. To me (a martial arts novice), it just looked like a badly dubbed ‘Kung Fu’ film and I still chuckle when I recall the sequence where our hero leaps onto speeding train and utters the words “I couldn’t help but over hear… so I hurried here”. The plot is a simple one: When the Japanese massacre the people of his fishing village, Wang Yu heads to Japan seeking vengeance. Can’t say if we contacted Ember to acquire the video cassette rights, but I do know that it was a fantastic seller and was one of our titles that was always being duplicated. The label was designed by Marianne Frost.
